| A comment that has been beat to death is 'the market is irrational.' There is always someone who is still making money. Those that find that position themselves on that money trail will prosper. Who are the essential businesses? Will they thrive even in a recession? I purchased Big Lots (BIG) stock at a market capitalization of about $725 million. (currently over $1 billion and rising) Rationale: -Shelves of essential items could not and cannot stay on shelves. -During lockdown, they are the only Ashley Furniture dealer that remains open during lockdowns. Walmart nor Target sell Ashley Furniture. Not even Ashley Furniture HomeStore are allowed to be open for business. Furniture being the largest category for Big Lots. Most stores are in desperate need to hire furniture department associates during these times. -Big Lots press release that it needs more workers for increased demand. -2019 made a net profit of $242 million. From the looks of things this year will be better than last despite Covid. -Lowest P/E multiple in its category. -The leaseback deal worth $750 million in which $435 million will be reflected in EPS. -Decent Balance Sheet. This amongst other reasons. I conservatively see this being worth $40-45 per share by years end. |
